The international community has been making significant efforts to improve TSF safety. Following a large-scale TSF accident in Brazil in 2019, that same year the UN Development Program, International Council on Mining and Metals, and Principles for Responsible Investment initiated the “Global Tailings Review”.  On August 5, 2020, the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management was adopted, aimed at preventing catastrophic accidents at such facilities.
