Today, March 2, 2021, at the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center, representatives of competent authorities, international organizations and the expert community discussed the main technical and legislative aspects of TSFs identified under the research in the Donbass and the Dniester River Basin.

The press conference is organized by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine. Speakers:

Nikolaieva Iryna told about the research of the TSFs conducted for the last three years (2018-2020). It is noted that the research results demonstrated a trend of excessive and unregulated accumulation of industrial waste since Soviet times.

Studying in practice various aspects of tailings management for compliance with the legal requirements of Ukraine, there is a clear deficit of quality state regulation of industrial waste management, including waste from the extractive industry. It is extremely important for Ukraine to have a unified legislative document in the status of secondary legislation that will define clear standards of environmental and technogenic safety of TSFs.

To that end, it is necessary to consider TSFs while implementing reforms to approximate Ukrainian legislation in accordance with European law.
