Meeting of the Dniester Basin Council and the International Dniester River Day 25.05.2019

Dniester Basin Council held the meeting on May 24, 2019 in Ivano-Frankivsk. The territorial and local authorities, public organizations, scientists and specialists in water management took part in the event. Our specialists presented the first research results on the Tailings Management Facilities (TMFs) located in the Dniester River Basin.

The works are performed under the GEF project "Enabling Transboundary Cooperation and Integrated Water Resources Management in the Dniester River Basin". Our specialist and project expert, Hanna Lenko, told about ongoing research. Currently, our team visits oil and gas facilities located in Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions.

The national legislation on TMFs safety management is the issue of special attention. In experts opinion, the implementation of European standards shall simplify our legal framework and address the gaps. In such way the TMF safety operation will be ensured both by the government bodies and TMF-operators. After all, the overall goal is to minimize the environmental impact and prevent the emergency situations on such potentially hazard objects.

The Dniester Basin Council proposed to TMF-operators - members of the River Basin Council to report the topical safety operation issues and discuss the ways to address them at the next meeting.
